這句話老外聽到都要笑了,I cook myself不是指「我自己做菜」,而是「我把自己煮了」。真要說自己做菜、做飯,可以用:I cook my food. / I do cooking myself.

(O)太好了,事情大有進展。
cooking with gas原意是「用瓦斯煮東西」,形容「一件事如火如荼進行」,大約就是中文的「做得正確、幹得漂亮」。例句:
I knew she was finally cooking with gas when she answered all questions correctly.
(我知道當她答對所有問題時,她感覺就對了。)
The football games are cooking with gas.
(足球賽事在如火如荼進行中。)
My coworker cooked my goose.
(X)同事把我的鵝煮掉了。
(O)同事破壞了我的計劃/同事毀掉我的前程。
cook意思是煮、goose是鵝,但cook sb's goose不是「煮鵝」,而是「打碎某人的計畫」,或者「毀了一個人的名譽」。例句:
Just tell her we can't - that'll cook her goose.
(只要告訴她我們不能——那她就沒戲了。)
也有被動的用法,例如:
Their goose was cooked after that last goal.
(對方打入最後一個進球時,他們就沒機會了。)
He was caught cooking the books.
(X)他被抓到把書煮了。
(O)他被抓到竄改帳目。
這裡的cook不是「煮」,而是「篡改、編造」的口語用字,例如:
The evidence was all cooked up by him.
(證據都是他編造的。)
books在這裡也不是「書」,而是指「財務報表」,都用複數形。常用的搭配是:
do / keep the books=查帳/記帳
close the books=結平帳目
而cook the books就是指「竄改帳目」。再看一例:
