在商業場合想要表現得更有禮貌一點，常常會使用please這個字，就像講中文加一個「請」字。但，英文的please是一把雙面刃，用得好可以讓語氣更禮貌；用得不好，可能讓你太直接或太客氣，甚至影響專業度。來看幾個例子：

1.Please用得太直接，可能顯得不禮貌

（Ｘ）Please reply ASAP.（請儘快回覆。）
（Ｏ）Could you reply as soon as possible?
（Ｏ）We would appreciate your prompt response.

在正式商業溝通中，please＋命令句（祈使句）會讓人感覺有點強硬，特別是對上司或客戶時，會顯得過於直接。用could you或we would appreciate會讓語氣更柔和、更專業。

2.Please用在錯誤的位置，會導致語意模糊

（Ｘ）Please, check the document.（請查收文件。）
（Ｏ）Please check the document.
（Ｏ）Could you check the document, please?

Please通常放在句首或句尾，但不能隨意加逗號，如「Please, check…」，這會讓句子讀起來很奇怪。比較常見的正確句型有：

  • Please check the document.（較直接）
  • Could you check the document, please?（更委婉）

3.Please可能過於客氣，顯得不夠專業

（Ｘ）Please kindly check the attached file.（請查收附件。）
（Ｏ）Please check the attached file.
（Ｏ）Attached is the file for your review.

Please kindly是不自然的組合，please已經表示禮貌，不需要再加kindly來加強語氣。此外，商業郵件中，簡潔且直截了當的表達通常更受歡迎。例如「請確認附件」可以簡單的寫成：

  • Please check the attached file.（如果要表達禮貌，這樣已經夠了。）
  • Attached is the file for your review.（更專業的商務寫法。）

4.Please不適用於自我介紹或表達意見

（Ｘ）Please let me introduce myself.（讓我介紹自己吧！）
（Ｏ）Let me introduce myself.

在正式場合，please多用於請求或命令，而不是自我介紹。直接說 let me introduce myself更符合語言習慣。同樣的，當表達個人意見時，不需要加please：

（Ｘ）Please, I think we should reconsider this approach.（我覺得我們應該重新考慮做法。）
（Ｏ）I think we should reconsider this approach.

5.在談判或拒絕時錯用Please，可能削弱自己的立場

（Ｘ）Please lower the price for us.（價格請再降一些。）
（Ｏ）Would you be open to discussing a lower price?
（Ｏ）Could we explore a more competitive pricing option?

在談判時，please可能讓你的要求顯得過於卑微，減少議價的籌碼。改用更商務化的語句，如「Would you be open to…」或「Could we explore…」，能讓你的語氣有禮貌又保有談判主動權。

6.Please不能用來道歉，Please的本質是請求而非認錯

（Ｘ）Please excuse me for the mistake.（請原諒我的錯。）
（Ｏ）I apologize for the mistake.

Please是讓對方做某事，而道歉的本質是「承認錯誤並表達遺憾」，這兩者語氣和目的不同。要道歉，直接用I apologize或I'm sorry。

  • I sincerely apologize for the delay.（更正式的表達方式。）
  • Sorry for the late response.（較口語化的說法。）

7.Please在請求動作時，可能顯得太過禮貌或被動

（Ｘ）Please let us know if you have any questions.（如有任何問題，請讓我知道。）
（Ｏ）Let us know if you have any questions.
（Ｏ）Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

因為let us know已經是禮貌的表達方式，在這個情境下please是多餘的。此外，Feel free to reach out也能讓對方感覺更自在。

8.「請」直翻為please，可能會生語法錯誤

請他過來：

（Ｘ）Please he come here.
（Ｏ）Could you ask him to come here?
（Ｏ）Can you have him come over?

在中文裡，請他過來的「請」代表「請求某人做某事」，但英文裡，please不能直接放在 he之前，因為please只能用在祈使句，例如please come here。

如果要請別人叫某人過來，應該用ask或have來表達。

  • Could you ask him to come here?（你可以請他過來嗎？）
  • Can you have him come over?（你能讓他過來嗎？）
